We used Susan's self leveling laser, and put the beam up.
I highly recomend her toy.
I think I have used it more than she has.
It is so easy, you feel like it cannot be right... but it was right on the money!

Here is a shot of the Ledger board.  We are keeping it, the joists and the posts and beam from the carport for the camper area.

I decided to paint the underside of the osb board before it was placed on the roof.
This is just primer.

Here it is painted on the side that will face down.  (the ceiling)

Tyler has helped me by putting the osb board on the roof.

He also poured some concrete under the pier blocks.

Then Susan and Dana came over and helped me plumb up the posts that the 2nd beam will eventually sit on.

The brown board going from the old rafters to the new post is where the roof line will eventually be.

Our Carport needs to be re roofed.  It rains on the camper...

The roofing on the carport is like a thick tar paper with a coating on it.
It came up easily.
We are planning on putting 3 tab shingles on.

Problem was the small carport is pulling on the larger carport.

Then we started looking at how hokey the little carport was put together...
The posts holding the end up are I beam metal bolted to the structure.

Then I noticed the 2x4 rafters were pulling away from the beam...

So we decided to rebuild the whole small carport.
I put a 4x4 post to brace the roof, (we put a tow rope attached to the bottom of the post)

then I used my pole saw to cut the rafters.

Here is a video of us pulling the 4x4 post out from under the roof.
